Ah, E3 season, what an exciting time. Rumors and leaks run rampant while the gaming masses eat up every crumb of information made available. Today’s big rumor comes in the form of an E3 proof sheet which allegedly reveals that the official name for Sony’s NGP will be the “PlayStation Vita.”

After almost certainly being confirmed, the portable codenamed “NGP” was revealed to the public on January 27, 2011 at the PlayStation Meeting in Japan. The successor to the PlayStation Portable packs a punch spec wise, sporting dual analog sticks, a 4-core SGX543MP4+ graphics processor, 3G, and a 5 inch OLED capacitive touch screen. The portable will also stray from the XcrossMediaBar interface used by the PSX DVR, Playstation 3 and PSP, and instead use a new UI dubbed LiveArea.
The rumored name change comes only a week before Sony is scheduled to deliver its annual E3 press conference. You can bet we will be hearing much more about the NGP PS Vita on June 6th.

I don’t like their new name. Personally, I grew up with a PSP. The word PSP was used so much in my neighbourhood, it was almost impossible to find anyone who don’t know what a PSP is. Don’t know why Sony would change it’s name, it was perfect.
