Capcom has announced cancellation of the somewhat mysterious Mega Man Universe. While the announcement cited “various circumstances,” the departure of series creator Keiji Inafune in October of last year may have something to do with the game receiving the axe.
Before the cancellation, Mega Man Universe was on track to be a unique revamp of the blue bomber. While the story was to be based on Mega Man 2, Universe was going to differentiate itself from previous games by combining 2D gameplay with fully customizable 3D characters and levels. Capcom also released a trailer that showed off some of the special characters players could expect to use that included Ryu from Street Fighter, Arthur from Ghosts n’ Goblins, and the monstrosity that is the character from the North American Mega Man 1 boxart.
